There's a way to strength that sounds good in theory.
You get up. Show up. You do the thing, and the other thing. More things. There’s a lot of things you keep hearing about. You start to think, am I wasting my time? Is there a better way? Or maybe you just don’t start at all.
I know this version from experience and also from observation.
I taught Pilates for years while running on empty (beyond empty); two kids, a house, several diagnoses, surgery, and a body sending up smoke signals.
Pilates wasn’t the magic pill that fixed all of this, but it was and is the one place where I know I can come back to myself — where I listen to my body and understand it and I find peace in my day. That's what this programme is: not a workout, but a way back, and a way forward. One you can rely on.
Building Strength You Can Trust

This is what a lesson will feel like… this is from week 1
The ProblemI have been practicing Pilates for twenty-five years.
And the thing I keep seeing, in every body, at every level, is not lack of effort, discipline, or desire.
It's most often simply a lack of understanding.
People move without knowing what they're moving, or why. They might get stronger but don't feel capable. When something feels off, they have no framework to understand, and no idea of what to change to fix it. And that’s because capability isn't just physical, it's knowing the why.
The fundamentals are the most overlooked part of Pilates. Everyone wants to skip to the interesting bit— the fancy stuff that looks good on Instagram. But in twenty-five years, the people I've watched make the most profound changes — in their bodies, in how they carry themselves, in how they feel — are the ones who went back to the beginning and did it properly.
The foundation work is not the boring work. It is the work. And it is the hardest.
This programme is built on that. We need strong roots to grow.
What you'll getEight weeks. Classical mat Pilates, built from the ground up. This is a self-paced video programme — all content is available on demand, to practice in your own time, whenever it fits your schedule. The eight weeks refers to the structure, not a timetable you have to follow.
Each week has a theme drawn from classical Pilates philosophy, layered with neuroscience, biomechanics, and the science of how the body actually works. Not because it’s trendy, but because understanding why you’re doing something changes how you do it, and you’re more likely to value the work if you have this appreciation, more likely to continue practicing. Which is how we become the type of person who shows up and takes care of themselves— we are creating strong habits.
We start with the fundamentals , and not as a warm-up to the real work, but as the real work itself. Each exercise exists for a reason and each one progresses you to another layer. By Week 8, you won’t just be stronger, you’ll understand why you’re stronger, and what to do with that. And the habits of movement you create will start to show up in the way you move through out the day.
Eight themes— Eight weeks— One complete foundation:
Week 1 — Align, Scoop, Breathe, and the two body senses you didn’t know you had
Week 2 — The Articulating Spine: why a locked spine is a locked nervous system
Week 3 — Stabilise to Mobilise: the paradox at the heart of Pilates
Week 4 — Moving From the Hip: why your tight hamstrings probably aren’t tight
Week 5 — The Shoulder Girdle: a full session at the wall, no mat required
Week 6 — Side Bending & Twisting: the most neglected plane of movement
Week 7 — Extension & the Back Body: waking up what screen culture has shut down
Week 8 — Flow & the Beginner Mat Sequence: your capstone session and the beginning of the practice
Each week includes four videos:
Theory video (7–10 mins) — the why behind the week, with science woven through
Full practice session (25–35 mins) — the main work, building the previous weeks
Drill video (10-15 mins) — one technique broken down in detail
10-minute flow (10 mins) — for busy days, a complete practice in the time you have
***All you need: a mat and two tins of beans, maybe a beach read and a tea towel. Week 5 doesn’t even need the mat — just a wall
By the end you’ll be able to:
Understand what your body is doing in each exercise — and what it’s supposed to be doing
Recognise when something isn’t working and adjust, rather than push through
Build strength that is actually reliable — not just on the mat, but in everything else
Use this foundation as the basis for every other movement practice in your life
Joe Pilates called his method ‘Contrology’ — the complete coordination of body, mind, and spirit. That’s not marketing speak, that’s what it actually does, when it’s taught properly. IMHO this programme is taught properly.
How it will feelThe goal is not to just work out. And check it off. The goal is to feel different in your body — more settled in it, more capable, more trusting of it.
People who do this work properly tell me things like: I stand differently. My back stopped hurting. I can breathe. My pelvis is free. I stopped snoring. I just went to the doctor and I am physically taller than I was! I’m so happy— all of these are true.
Strength isn't just physical, it's a relationship with your body built on understanding rather than pure effort.
Mind is body. Body is mind. Pilates knew this way back in 1918. He boasted he was 80 years ahead of his time. And he was right. The science is only now catching up.
My approachBefore you decide, you might want to hear how I think about this.
This episode of the WellyWalk Podcast is about the magic of movement — the neuroscience behind why Pilates works, and why I believe the intellectual understanding and the transcendental experience of movement aren't opposites. They're the same thing, approached from different directions.
It's also where I started. And it's the philosophy this programme is built on.

Who's it forThis programme is for you if:
you might have done Pilates classes but still feel vague about what they’re asking you to do
you want to get stronger but the guesswork is exhausting
you're the kind of person who needs to understand the why — not just follow instructions
you want a calmer, more intelligent relationship with your body
you're coming back after illness, surgery, or a period of not looking after yourself, and you want to do it properly this time
you're a Pilates teacher or movement professional who wants to go back to the roots
You do not need to be fit, flexible, young, or experienced. You need to be curious and willing to go slowly. The slow work is the fast work, in the end.
Who Am II'm Jennifer Palmer. I've been a Pilates teacher for thirteen years and a student of the method for twenty-five — which is to say, I am still learning everyday.
I trained in classical Pilates and have taught privately and in groups, in-person and online. I am not interested in Pilates as an aesthetic method. I am interested in it as a practice — something you return to, something that teaches you things about yourself you didn't know you needed to know.
I am also the host of the WellyWalk Podcast — a story-driven show about transformation, neuroscience, and the project of building a life that feels aligned with your true self. The Pilates and the podcast are, for me, one in the same. Mind is body and body is mind — Listen to the WellyWalk Podcast → http://podfollow.com/1800906116

An 8-Week video based program in which we grow the roots of our Pilates practice. These are the skills that get glanced over when you take classes or speed through a training program, eager to get to the fancy stuff. But this is the most important work: every exercise, every skill you try to learn will only ever be as strong as these foundations. Over the eight weeks you’ll also learn neuroscience and biomechanics to support your practice, making this fertile ground for every thing you do.

FAQDo I need any Pilates experience?
No. This programme is designed for people who want to understand Pilates properly, whether you’re a complete beginner or have done classes for years and want to fill in the gaps.
Is this live, or can I do it at my own pace?
Entirely at your own pace. There are no live sessions, no set times, and no pressure to follow the eight-week structure strictly. The videos are on demand — you watch and practice whenever it suits you. Some people will move through a chapter a week. Others will take longer. Both are completely fine. The videos are yours permanently.
What equipment do I need?
A mat and two tins of beans. That’s genuinely it. Week 5 doesn’t even need the mat — just a wall.
What if I miss a week or fall behind?
All videos remain accessible throughout the programme. You move at your own pace within the weekly structure. Life happens — the programme is designed with that in mind.
Will I have access to Jennifer directly?
Yes. Founding cohort members have access to a WhatsApp group throughout the first eight weeks (June 30- August 30) for questions, and a live Zoom session if there’s sufficient interest. This level of access is specific to the founding cohort.
Closing The founding cohort starts 30 June. If you’ve been waiting for the right time to do this properly — no time like the present— I would love to have you with us.
No spam. No noise. Just eight weeks of work that will change how you move, and how you feel in your body. On your schedule. In your own time. Whenever you're ready to show up.
The foundation work is the work worth doing. Let’s do it properly
